Ever wondered how other countries, organisations and teams do design? Why are some countries using design to solve their most difficult social problems, while others think design simply means a cute logo or cool packaging?
The way we think about design can vary enormously. "Design Culture" can depend on your country, your organisation, your circle of friends and your own personal thoughts about design.
In this session, four design experts and global citizens will share their experiences and thoughts about Design Culture in different parts of the world.
We'll talk about why some governments and companies have become design & innovation leaders while others are only beginning to understand the power of design. This will be a fun and interactive talk about how design is understood and used around the world and what these means for Hong Kong.
Please bring your ideas and thoughts as there will be lots of audience participation!
Your worldly experts:
Iñaki Amate - Group Director, Fjord Design & Innovation.
Iñaki is Fjord’s Regional Group Director for the Nordics, Turkey and Russia. He's led and directed design teams in Russia, Holland, Brazil, Chile, Paris and Istanbul.
Iñaki loves to remix culture. But he isn’t doing it in the art world or for the music industry. He’s remixing the technological and social trends he gathers from across the world for his clients at Fjord. He samples a little from a project in Japan, mixes it with some research his teams have done in Turkey, and transforms it into something completely new for a client in Brazil.
Peter J. Buckingham - Head of UX, Vodafone Hong Kong.
Peter currently heads the Vodafone UX Team, which has resources based in Hong Kong, Dusseldorf and Shanghai. His responsibilities include the UX strategy and feature propositions for Vodafone’s branded portfolio of Android smartphones and tablets.
Peter started his career in UX in the late 90’s with Orange, and went on to lead teams in Manchester, Sweden and Beijing for Sony-Ericsson where he helped create some of the world’s first smartphone touchscreen experiences on products.
Michael Held - Director Design Asia Pacific at Steelcase
Based in Hong Kong, Michael leads design in Asia Pacific for Steelcase. Having lived and worked throughout Asia for over a decade, he is well positioned to head the product development initiatives for the region with a specific focus on growth markets. Before joining Steelcase in 2014 Michael worked for numerous design consultancies and in-house design teams in Germany, Switzerland, Taiwan and Singapore before moving to Hong Kong for Philips Design in 2008.
He is known for his direct style and we've heard he can be quite loud around the office! (although we can't reveal our sources).
